DIRECTOR
After graduating as an Architect in the UK, Allan Murray received scholarships to study in the USA from the Scottish International Education Trust and the British Schools and Universities. He studied at Harvard University, receiving his Masters of Architecture degree in 1986. Allan also worked for three years with on large scale public buildings in Boston and New York City with the internationally renowned practice of Moshe Safdie & Associates and received national registration as an architect in the USA before returning to the UK in 1989.

Allan then spent two years teaching architecture at Edinburgh University and Dundee University before establishing the practice in 1992. 

Allan Murray along with Alexander Fairweather established the current practice in 1993. The aim of Allan Murray Architects has always been to make architecture of the highest design standards and to provide our clients with innovative and practical solutions to projects. Allan Murray is very much involved in each and every design project in the office and provides the underlying philosophy of the practice.
 
ALEXANDER FAIRWEATHER

DIRECTOR
Alexander Fairweather studied Architecture at Edinburgh College of Art, winning a scholarship in 1983 to the University of Kansas, studying under Curtis Besinger (a Taliesin Fellow) and Amos Rappaport, amongst others. In the US, he travelled widely, studying the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Kahn. Returning to Edinburgh, he was awarded BArch with First Class Honours in 1987, and the University Prize for Outstanding Merit, and a DipArch (Distinction) in 1988, as well as the Watt Club Medal. Between 1982 and 1988, he won travelling scholarships to France, studying Le Corbusier, and to Spain, studying Moorish and Plateresque architecture. 

Since graduating, he has worked on large scale projects including the Glasgow Concert Hall and Mecca University, and was project architect on the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, as well as several restoration and conversion schemes for historic A-Listed buildings. Alexander has been a Visiting Critic at the University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh College of Art and Dundee University.
