AMA Studio is one of Scotland’s foremost urban design practices specialising in urban regeneration and masterplanning.
The practice is currently developing ideas and masterplans for some of the most complex and challenging inner city regeneration locations across Scotland. Our approach bridges our collective need for recognisable urban spaces – streets and squares – with contemporary, dynamic place making and public realm. Our urban ambitions are grounded in a very sound commercial reality.
In our view masterplans must follow some simple rules. They are but a beginning of a journey, not a ‘die cast’ plan or ‘the’ blueprint for the future. Ideas – for that is how they all begin – must be considered and robust, but capable of being adapted without losing any integrity; they must be flexible but have a strength and clarity of spaces that endure; spaces and places must be capable of being recognisable as part of the genus loci of the city.
Critically, a successful masterplan must respond to our 3 ‘D’s – Density, Diversity and Delight – and perhaps most importantly they must have a resonance with the community: they must offer something positive back to the community that they can be proud of and they can feel a true ownership of.
